Cycle safety - tips to reduce risks
The Hills M2 Motorway is currently undergoing a major enhancement, the Hills M2 Upgrade. The project will increase the capacity of the motorway, provide new entry and exit points and return access to the breakdown lane for cyclists between Delhi Road and Beecroft Road.
During the construction period, which has already commenced and is expected to be concluded in early 2013, cyclists will be unable to access the motorway. An alternative cycle path has been established from Delhi Road to Windsor Road. In order to access further route information click here.
Cyclists are more vulnerable than motorists in high speed traffic environments such as motorways. If you choose to cycle, we want you to be safe, so here are some tips to help reduce the risks of cycling.
- Wear high visibility clothing with reflective fabric
- Increase your visibility--travel with lights--both day and night
- Cross traffic lanes only at the designated crossing points
- Be aware that you are cycling in a high speed traffic environment, so always stay wholly within the breakdown lane
- We recommend you ride in single file for a safer journey
- Leave your personal audio equipment at home
- Always wear a safety approved cycle helmet
